Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02cm) in width overall, consisting of an orange bomb blast in front of a mountain range in natural colors, edged at top and sides by two silver lightning bolts conjoined at top and terminating with arrowheads, points downward; in base a tripartite blue scroll doubled silver, enveloping the bomb blast and terminating behind the arrowhead, inscribed "SWIFT SURE DEADLY" in silver letters.

Symbolism
Ultramarine blue and golden orange are the colors associated with aviation. The jagged mountain range refers to Utah and the home location of the unit. The silver flashes suggest snow on the mountain peaks. The motto, "SWIFT SURE DEADLY" is represented by the lightning bolts and the on-target hit or bomb blast. The design embodies the capabilities and aerial attack mission of the unit.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 1 Aug 1988.
